Arriving in Canada in 2019 was daunting. We had two teenagers and a beautiful two year old boy. I was a teacher in South Africa and I knew my little one was different. (Despite medical professionals trying to convince me otherwise).
In Canada, as an immigrant, with a child with complex needs, I felt alone. I felt isolated. I was fighting for a diagnosis and I was fighting for services. To make things worse, Covid took the world by storm and that had a huge impact on our journey.
We navigated between the public school system, an Autistic school and now we are looking into Distant Learning. I will keep on advocating and searching until I find the right fit for my Liam.
People (angels in my eyes) crossed our path through the years and things got easier. Now I feel supported, I feel seen. I feel grateful. I found my tribe.
